James McCourt's Surreal Memories of Stonewall

 The novelist James McCourt was at the Stonewall Bar hours before the riots broke out on June 28, 1969. He witnessed a surreal encounter between two cops and a drag queen, involving Judy Garland and a cocktail thrown in the heat of the moment.
